Drax Golf Club held the annual Captain’s Drive In recently, managing to find a break in the weather that has seriously curtailed the action during the last few weeks.
Watched by nearly 50 members, this year’s new captain David Smith opened proceedings with a respectable drive of 177 yards, managing to stay out of the ubiquitous trees for which the course is renowned! David was followed by new Senior Captain, Matthew Forde who managed to outshine the youngsters with an arrow straight 200 yard shot which set up a birdie for the team in the Texas Scramble match. Also present on a nervous first tee were the new vice captains Kevin Harrison and Kenneth Williams.
The competition was won by last year’s captain Garryk Slaywe, who played with Club Chairman Roger Elliott, Alan Dean and Derek Wilson. Nearest Pin prizes were won by Dale Banks, Alan Dean and Wayne Burnett.
The final highlight of the day was the Grand draw for a year’s free membership which was won by a very happy Geoff Rankin.
Drax is a private, member only, course, however anyone wishing to play the course can do so by booking a tee time with our partners at teeofftimes.co.uk.
During March potential new members will be able to play at our winter rate of £8 per round, payable at the Sports and Social Club. For more details these will be shortly posted on our website or call Matthew Forde on 07445324071.
