The clouds have finally cleared and after a record breaking 25cm of rain in March and April the course is at last able to host the new season's competitions. The first event of the year is the Captain's Drive In and this year England Golf Young Ambassador of the Year, Liam Ridgill, had the honour of hitting the first serious shot of the year! He was joined on the first tee by Senior Captain Allan Palmer, Junior Captain Samuel Blackham and vice-captain Dan Mitchell, along with Senior vice-captain Matthew Forde. Liam managed to blast the ball 243 yards in the general direction of the first green and much to his delight it remained in bounds!
The competition on the day was a Texas Scramble which was won by the late combination of Alan Puddyford, Gary Meadows, James Boyle and Steve Mileham. When the presentation was complete the annual draw for a year's free membership was made, and this year it was won by Roger Wilmot of Thorne. Roger was delighted with his win and is looking forward to taking advantage of the ever- improving course at Drax.
This year the Club has introduced a flexible 'summer only' membership for new players wishing to sample golf membership.
The next big event at Drax is a Quiz Night on May 4th at 7pm. All members and non-members very welcome. This is followed by the popular Spring Open which is on Saturday May 19th. Keep following Drax Golf Club in these pages for all results and upcoming competitions.
