Lucas represents Drax Golf Club at St Andrews

6 year old Lucas Skilbeck of Carlton in Snaith achieved what golfers all over the world aspire to by qualifying for the final of a national junior golf tournament played at the home of golf, St Andrews in Scotland.

Lucas, who attends Carlton Primary School, has been playing in age group tournaments all year, to qualify for the final of the Wee Wonders competition and needed to finish in the top 3 of the regional round played at the Leeds Golf Centre. Lucas, caddied by dad Phil, only went and won the heat to qualify!

Before travelling to Scotland, Lucas had one more tournament to play, a round of the European Junior tour at Carden Park in Chester, where once again he led the field home with a level par score of 44 for the 9 holes played.

Lucas and his family spent the bank holiday weekend in St Andrews and had a fantastic time, especially walking the famous old links and posing on the Swilken Bridge where all of golf’s great champions have stood when marching down the 18th to claim the British Open.

Lucas played tremendously well, and birdied the final hole to finish in a very creditable 7th place in a field of the best young players from all over Britain.

Lucas was back practising at Drax on Monday morning looking to add to his haul of trophies for the year. Dad Phil is delighted with Lucas’ progress and is also very thankful to everyone at Drax who has supported Lucas on his journey. Watch this space!
