Final Results from Drax Golf Club

The weather continued to shine as the golf season finally drew to a close at Drax. The Medal final was the reward for prizes accumulated through the season and it was fitting that the most consistent performers swept the board in all 3 divisions. Steve Fitt completed his stellar season with success in the first division. John Thompson had the lowest score in all divisions while clinching division 2. Veteran Peter Rowbottom won division 3 to complete a treble for players from the club’s thriving Senior section.

The knockout competitions were all hard fought and the prestigious Scratch singles trophy was won by the big hitting Paul Blackham in an epic final against Read School’s David Gisbourne. The handicap singles was won by Darren Neary in his first season at the club, narrowly beating Steve Sutton in the final. The gentlemen’s doubles final was won by serial winner Dave Minto and his new partner Michael Rollason. They overcame a strong challenge from former captain Garryk Slaywe and his partner Geoff Rankin.

The ladies section has had a busy year which was dominated by Hirst Courtney’s Maxine Wagstaffe who won the Singles trophy, the medal final and the important National Power Trophy. Ann O’Neill prevented a clean sweep by winning the Marie Curie tournament as well as teaming up with her sister Mary Cresham to win the ladies doubles cup. Mary then joined forces with Chris Burrows to win the mixed doubles. Finally Maxine popped up again with Matthew Forde to win the Mixed Greensomes Shield, just piping Mary and Chris in a close final.

There is plenty to look forward to during the winter season with a Monthly Texas Scramble and Stableford competition.
