August Results at Drax Golf Club

Drax Golf Club head green keeper Mark Sneap welcomed the rain in August and the course was.transformed from the baked fairways back to its attractive lush self, the golfers however continued unabated and several familiar names added more gongs to their collection! Chief among them was the irrepressible Steve Fitt who won the Monthly medal and the Senior medal round, both with nett scores of 62, 6 under par. The handicap secretary duly sharpened his pencil and Steve has seen his handicap slashed by 6 shots this summer!

Also doubling up this month was James Boyle who won the second division of the Monthly Medal and the Rabbits Major, the Barlow Cup. Darren Neary added the third Division medal to his seasonal haul and has done enough to move up into Division 2 for the the foreseeable future. The Tigers major this month was the J Scott Cup and vice captain Dan Mitchell clinched the trophy with a fine 40 points, 4 under par.

The Jubilee pairs is always a highlight of the year and 2018 was no exception. The in form veteran Peter Rowbottom teamed up with last year’s Senior captain Dave Littlefair to claim the prize for the first time with a very respectable 43 Stableford points.

The midweek medals were claimed by the consistent Craig Shelton and John Thompson, with newcomer, and father of green keeper Mark, Bob Sneap winning the division 3 round. Nothing like a bit of inside knowledge Bob! Snaith veteran Graham Trotter finally put his dodgy knee problems behind him with a win in the Senior Cup August leg, which just shows that modern medical science is not just confined to the likes of Tiger Woods!

As the season draws to a close, the course is in tip top condition and there is plenty of opportunities to pay and play before the summer ends. You can also sign up for our popular Autumn Open on 22nd of September.
