Partnering with Humber Forest and The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), we are planting over 5,300 trees and hedgerow plants, including Hawthorn and Rowan, along our 1st and 9th fairways. Building on our 2017 regeneration project and our status as a 2022 England Golf Sustainability Award Finalist, this initiative marks a major milestone in our commitment to local biodiversity and a greener future for the club.

Captain’s Charity Success: Our 2025 Club Captain, Ian Smyth, has officially concluded his year of fundraising with a fantastic result! Yesterday, Ian presented a cheque for £4,455.00 to Martin House Children’s Hospice. This incredible total reflects a year of hard work, community events, and the immense generosity of our members. When grass freezes, it becomes as brittle as glass. Walking on it can cause permanent cellular damage and "root shearing" during the thaw. It’s January in the UK, and at Drax Golf Club, that means protecting our "Sacred Turf." When we switch to winter greens, the main greens become "Wrong Greens" under Rule 13.1f. You must take mandatory free relief if your ball, stance, or swing is affected. Find your nearest point of complete relief (no closer to the hole) and drop within one club-length. Avoid a two-stroke General Penalty and help us keep our course in top condition this winter!

The Drax Golf Club Greenkeeping team has completed major winter works, including full renovation of all winter tees and the installation of a new one on holes 2/14. We’ve also built a new 14th tee for summer play and added irrigation to the 1st tee. New paths have been installed on holes 4, 6, 7, and a path connecting the 2nd and 14th tees. Final path surfacing is paused due to heavy rain, but will resume once the ground firms up.

Drax Golf Club's 2025 Presentation Evening was a huge success, celebrating our season champions! The night culminated in the surprise announcement of two top winners: Graham Trotter (Captain's Special Achievement Award) and Mark Sneap (Golfer of the Year)! Thanks to all who attended, our Club Staff, and the Committee (especially Kevin & Donna Harrison) for organizing. We also thanked our outgoing Captains and welcomed the incoming 2026 leaders.

The course design is a standout feature, utilizing varied terrain, strategic water hazards, and fast, undulating greens to test every skill level. The course is now non-qualifying for WHS scores. This tough decision protects Drax's financial security. England Golf requires mats to be mandatory if scores are qualifying, but a mat mandate severely impacted our green fees. By going non-qualifying, we protect the course and the club's future.
