Further to The Prime Minister's announcement last night and following updated guidance issued today by England Golf, on Monday 1st June we will be allowed to reintroduce competitions and increase the number of players per group.
As of Monday 1st June, we will be increasing the number of players per group to 3-balls (Maximum). This will allow us to ensure social distancing and also help with pace of play. This decision will be closely monitored over the next 7 - 10 days, when we will then look at allowing 4-balls on non-competition days only.
The first competition of the 2020 season will be the Midweek Medal on Thursday 4th June, quickly followed by the Monthly Medal on Saturday 6th June. Both competitions are now available to book through the BRS Members app.
For June, we will only play the following competitions which were in our original schedule for this competition year:
Midweek Medal: Thursday 4th June
Monthly Medal: Saturday 6th June
Senior's Cup: Monday 8th June
Senior's Medal: Thursday 18th June
Senior's John Davis Shield: Monday 22nd June
We have already scheduled the July dates for the above competitions in BRS and will be available to book by members in the middle of June.
Once we have completed the June Midweek and Monthly Medals, we will look to cherry-pick certain majors to be played in July, August and September. It may be that not all Majors are played, but this will be accessed in the coming weeks.
The decision has been made that knockout competitions for the 2020 season have been postponed until 2021.
All competition entries, for the time being, will need to be booked along with social golf through the BRS members app.
Competition Procedures:
As you can imagine, to reintroduce competitions, we will have to make adjustments to our current arrangements. Please see below updated arrangements:
All weekend competitions will be played on a Saturday.
Tee times on competition days will remain reserved for members from 07:30 up to 14:00. At 14:00 the tee will open to both members and visitors and a starter will be on the tee from this time to 18:30 as per the current starter rota. This again will be reviewed following each competition.
Tee closures will continue during the day moving forward to ensure the pace of play is not affected on the course. These have already been added for the June and July competition dates.
Entry fees will remain the same price and we will continue to run 2's clubs for weekend competitions.
Monies will have to be enveloped as normal and posted through the club office letterbox where they will be securely locked. Envelopes will be made available to players to use. These will be in a holder next to the office door.
Please ensure you write your name, competition name, date and enclosed amount on your envelope.
Players must enter their own hole scores on the scorecard (it is not necessary for a marker to do it).
It is not necessary to have a marker physically certify the player’s hole scores, but some form of verbal certification should take place.
Once a round has been completed, scorecards will be entered into a new outdoor letterbox which will be mounted next to the hand sanitiser by the first tee.
Scorecards will remain here for a minimum of 48 hours. After this time, the cards will then be collected, processed and results published.
With no rakes allowed on the course, please be reminded to make your very best efforts to smooth the sand using your club and/or their feet.
Golfers are required to leave the flagstick in the hole at all times and not to touch it.
Competition Pricing:
Medals = £3 + £1 Optional 2's Club
Majors = £4 + £1 Optional 2's Club
NB: 2's Club is only available on weekend competitions.
Again, The Committee thank you for your patients and tremendous support during these unprecedented times. We feel that now we are on the right track to 'normal' golfing practices.
Please ensure you read our Covid-19 guidelines before playing golf at Drax.
Best wishes,
The Committee
