The wet weather finally relented and the 2018 season has taken off in a blur of warm weather and back to back competitions!
April was a family friendly month, Ian and his father Stephen Mileham won the Division 1 and 2 midweek medals, while Craig Shelton won the Annual Shield for the Tiger section, with his father-in-law, Allan Palmer, simultaneously scooping the Charity Shield for the Rabbits. Other April winners included Neil Hathaway who took Division 3 in the midweek medal, and the monthly medal winners, Liam Waite, Scott Nodder and Mike Dobson.
May was dominated by Carlton’s Steve Fitt who has swept up 3 of the first 4 Senior competitions of the season as well as winning the Monthly Medal Division 1. Matthew Forde prevented a clean sweep by taking the first Senior Cup round of the year, and John Crackles rose to the top on the Senior Captain’s Day. Division 2 of the Monthly Medal was won by Steve Simpson, with Division 3 going to another multiple winner in Andrew Ritchings. Andrew also won the Rabbit’s Completion Cup this month. The Tigers competition, the Deborah Bowl, was won by Selby’s Dave Minto, a regular in the winner’s circle. A first time winner after several years at Drax was David Potts who won the Elvin Dickinson Memorial Cup, played for in memory of the club’s former green keeper and captain.
Craig Shelton picked up his second win of the season in the Midweek Medal, with Paul Simpson and Michael Woodhouse taking the Second and Third Division prizes. Finally, congratulations to new member Richard Littlewood and his partner from Selby Golf Club, Mick Ellin, who won this year’s prestigious Spring Open in blazing sunshine on the 19th. They were pushed all the way by Ripon City members, Wayne Best and John Baker as well as former captain Kevin Harrison and his partner from The Lincolnshire Club, Alan Dale.
June and July are packed with competitions and the club accepts members at any time, and this year we have a flexible option so you can join just for the summer season! See our website draxgolfclub.com for full details. The club is also running a ‘Stix at Six’ roll up game every Wednesday evening from 6pm, open to members and non-members, where there will be a fun game organised by Club Captain Liam Ridgill.
