There was a fantastic atmosphere at Drax Golf Club this week as we welcomed senior golfers from across Yorkshire for our 2026 Senior Open.
The annual pairs Stableford competition brought together golfers from Drax Golf Club, Selby Golf Club, The Oaks Golf Club, Pontefract Golf Club, Wath Golf Club, Waterfront Golf Club, Beverley Golf Club and a fantastic number of players from Cave Castle Golf Club, who are always welcome at Drax.
It was a day of friendly competition, good company and plenty of Yorkshire hospitality.
Competitive golf in summer conditions
The summer conditions made for an interesting challenge, with hard, bouncy fairways emphasising course management and accuracy.
As the scores showed, the ability to hit good shots into the greens and putt confidently proved particularly important, with some excellent performances throughout the field.
The competition was ultimately decided on countback, with Stuart Kerr and Joe Threadgold claiming the Senior Open title with an impressive 43 points.

🎯 8th – Steve Fitt
🎯 11th – Alan Desborough
Congratulations to all three winners.
A huge thank you to our volunteers
Events such as the Drax Senior Open simply wouldn't be possible without the time and commitment of our volunteers.
From preparing for the competition and getting everything ready behind the scenes to welcoming players and helping the day run smoothly, their contribution is hugely appreciated.
A particular thank you goes to Donna Harrison, who ensured that the Drax Golf Club hospitality was outstanding throughout the day. The feedback from competitors was extremely positive, and the warm welcome and refreshments were clearly appreciated by everyone who attended.
It is that combination of good golf, genuine hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere that we hope makes events at Drax memorable for our visitors.
Congratulations and thank you
Congratulations once again to all of our winners, and a huge thank you to everyone who travelled to Drax and supported this year's Senior Open.
Prizes will be sent or presented to all winners over the coming week.
Players who recorded 42 points or more should also check their WHS records from tomorrow, as all cards have been submitted for handicap purposes.
Most importantly, thank you to every player who helped make the 2026 Senior Open such an enjoyable day.
We were delighted to welcome golfers from so many clubs across the region, and particularly pleased to see so many familiar faces from Cave Castle Golf Club.
We hope to see you all back at Drax Golf Club again soon. ⛳
