The 2026 golf season at Drax Golf Club officially teed off this Easter weekend with our annual Captains’ Drive-In. There was a fantastic atmosphere around the clubhouse as members gathered to support Captain Nick, our Lady Captain, Julie, and our Senior Captain, Ian, as they faced the most nerve-wracking shot of the year!
Despite the traditional "first-tee jitters," all three Captains sent their drives away to a chorus of cheers, setting the perfect tone for a day of competitive golf and great company.
The Competition: Am-Am Results
The format for the day was an Am-Am, with the best two scores to count on most holes and three to count on the challenging Par 3s. The scoring was incredibly tight, but one team managed to pull ahead with a superb 90 points.
1st Place (90 pts): Mark Sneap, Alan Whawell, Captain Nick & Garryck Slaywe
2nd Place (88 pts)
3rd Place (85 pts)
Sharp Shooters: Nearest the Pin
Accuracy was the name of the game on the Par 3s. A special shoutout goes to Julie Smyth, who put on a masterclass by claiming two of the four nearest-the-pin prizes!
5th Hole: Julie Smyth
8th Hole: Chris Dyer
11th Hole: Harrison Rock
17th Hole: Julie Smyth
Playing for a Purpose
While the golf was excellent, the real winner of the day was Macmillan Cancer Support. Through entry fees, raffle ticket sales, and the "guess the distance" competition for the Captains' drives, the generosity of the Drax membership was on full display.
A huge thank you to everyone who donated, participated in the raffle, and dropped change into the donation tins. Your contributions make a world of difference to a fantastic cause.
On behalf of Nick and the entire Captaincy team, thank you to everyone who made the day so special. Here is to a brilliant 2026 season on the fairways!
