Arthur Bott Trophy Winner Announced

Welcome to night fifteen of our virtual 2020 Drax Golf Club Presentation Evening(s). Just four more to go including our Club Championship, Captain's Special Achievement Award and prestigious Player of the Year Award. 🏆

Last night we remembered the life of founder member Dennis Banks and also celebrated the success of Sean Parker who won this years competition in Dennis' memory.

Tonight we announce the winner of the Arthur Bott Trophy which is presented to the player who recorded the lowest gross score in our Major Competitions.

The trophy itself was donated by Arthur Bott who worked on the ashplant at the power station and was involved in the logistics of moving ash from the station to the golf course. Arthur went onto replace Steve Brittain as Handicap Secretary for a short period before becoming Club Captain in 1992.

This year's winner, Michael Beck, achieved the lowest gross score of the season in the Deborah Bowl, shooting a gross 69, that's just one over par! After 18 holes, our winner had recorded 15 par's, 2 bogeys and a birdie. 🤩

Having spoken to Michael after the round, he announced that he was "only just getting started!". These were bold words from the former Bawtry Golf Club professional who 5 years ago resigned his Professional status and granted his Amateur status by The R&A. After resigning as a pro, Michael had a break from golf all-together, only picking up a club once a year to host a Charity Golf Day to raise funds for local charities. Michael then joined Drax in June 2020 to start playing competitive amateur golf.

Congratulations Mick! 👏🏆
