Yesterday the membership at Drax came together to celebrate the life of a fond member, Graham Gilson, who sadly lost his battle with cancer last week.
The Club had already planned to host a charity day in Graham's honour before his passing, and his family wished the event to continue.
Despite a heavy downfall on Friday, Graham was watching over the 79 players who took to the course under blue, sunny skies on Saturday. As you would expect for an event to honour not only a member but a former greenkeeper, the golf course looked stunning. Mark and his team will miss Graham, his wise words and experience, but we are sure he would have been proud of his colleague's efforts on the golf course.
The event also gave The Club the opportunity to trial a new course layout, something Graham was a great supporter of. Initial indications are extremely positive, with some very good feedback. This route will be trialled again at the beginning of July to give those members who were unable to play yesterday the opportunity to provide their views.
That aside, the day was a huge success with £1,400.00 raised for Graham's chosen charity. The Club will work with the family to ensure Graham's wishes are upheld.
A special thank you to everyone who donated on the day or donated a raffle prize. Also, a huge thank you to Charlottes Florist Hatfield for their fantastic floral donation.
