Club Champion 2020

Welcome to night seventeen of our virtual 2020 Drax Golf Club Presentation Evening(s). With just two more night's to go, it's fair to say we are now at the business end of proceedings. 🎙

In last night's post, we congratulated Head Greenkeeper, Mark Sneap for his fantastic consistency which led to him winning the Adrian Greenwood Memorial Trophy. 👏

Tonight we take a look at our annual Club Championship which is traditionally a 36-hole gross competition played on one day with Round 1 played in the morning and Round 2 in the afternoon. It must be said, that playing 36-Holes in one day is no mean feat, especially when the competition is being held in the middle of August!

This year, 29 members signed up for the Clubs most prestigious competition intending to be crowned Club Champion. Of those 29, only one failed to complete 36 holes due to injury during the morning round.

Whilst there was some fantastic golf played across the board in both rounds, some would argue that the better golf came in the afternoon round after a meal and a beer in the clubhouse.

The morning round was a very closely fought competition with 3 players all within 2 shots of the lead which was a gross 72. Fast forward into the afternoon and it was an even closer affair, with 2 players tied on gross 73 and a gross 74 only just behind.

However, it was one person in particular who positioned in first place in the morning round and second place (BB9) in the afternoon round which was enough to go on to become our 2020 Club Champion.

Congratulations to our winner with an overall 36-Hole gross score of 145, Michael Beck! 🥳🏆
