The winter months might mean fewer rounds for many of us, but for the Greenkeeping team at Drax Golf Club, it signals the start of intense course maintenance and improvement projects! We are delighted to share a comprehensive update on the hard work that has been taking place across the course to ensure a fantastic playing experience for 2026.

Winter and Summer Tee Enhancements

Protecting and upgrading our tees is always a top priority, and this winter has seen significant activity in this area:

  • Winter Tee Renovation: Every one of our existing winter tee boxes has been completely renovated and prepared for the remainder of the off-season.

  • New Winter Tee: To further protect the main tees on the highly-trafficked 2nd and 14th holes, we have installed a brand-new dedicated winter tee box.

  • The New 14th Tee: One of the most exciting additions is the construction of a new 14th tee specifically designed for use during the summer season. This will offer a fresh challenge and perspective on the hole.

  • 1st Tee Irrigation: To ensure the 1st tee box remains in pristine condition, we have upgraded its infrastructure by adding new irrigation.

Path Installation: Improving Course Navigation

We know that getting between holes easily and safely is crucial, especially during wetter periods. A major focus this winter has been on improving the pathways around the course:

  • Key Hole Paths: New, robust paths have been successfully installed on holes 4, 6, and 7, significantly improving access and reducing wear and tear on surrounding turf.

  • New Connection Path: A convenient new path has been added behind the 2nd tee, providing a direct link to the site of the new 14th tee box.

A Note on Completion

While the majority of the planned works have been completed, we have encountered a slight delay in the final stages of the path installation.

Due to the unusually excessive rainfall over the past weeks, we have been unable to lay some of the final limestone required for the paths on holes 4, 6, and 7.

We appreciate your understanding on this matter. The safety and quality of the paths are paramount, and we will resume this final stage as soon as the ground is firm enough to allow for proper laying and compaction. We anticipate recommencing this work shortly as conditions improve.

The Greenkeeping team has done an outstanding job this winter, and we are excited for everyone to enjoy the enhanced course features as we move into the spring and summer. We look forward to welcoming you to Drax Golf Club soon!
