Ever wonder what goes into keeping our beloved greens looking so good? A lot of hard work from our dedicated Head Greenkeeper, Mark, and his team! But lately, Mark's been noticing something that's making his job a little tougher – and impacting our playing experience too.

We're talking about unrepaired pitch marks and unreplaced divots. While a few here and there are inevitable, we've seen a significant increase in both over the last couple of weeks. This isn't just an aesthetic issue; it directly affects the quality of our greens and, ultimately, your golf game.

This isn't just a friendly reminder; it's a call to action! Maintaining the pristine condition of our greens is a collective responsibility. And remember, if you're bringing guests to the club, it's up to you to ensure they're also doing their part to keep our course in top shape.

Why Does Proper Repair Matter So Much?

You might think a small pitch mark is no big deal, but let's break down why it's crucial to get those repairs right:

Faster Recovery, Smoother Greens: An unrepaired pitch mark is like an open wound on the green. It can take weeks to heal naturally, leaving an uneven surface that grabs your ball and throws off your putt. A properly repaired mark, however, can recover in a day or two! Think about it – a quick fix from you means a smooth putting surface for everyone, sooner.

Your Putting Performance: Those little bumps and inconsistencies caused by unrepaired marks? They're your putting nemesis! They affect the roll of the ball, making those crucial putts even more challenging. A clean, smooth green means a truer roll and a better chance of sinking that birdie.

Helping Our Greenkeepers Help Us: Mark and his team pour their heart and soul into maintaining our course. When they have to spend valuable time repairing dozens of neglected pitch marks, it takes them away from other essential tasks, such as mowing, fertilising, and pest control. By doing our part, we free them up to focus on the bigger picture of course excellence.

Master the Art of the Repair: A Quick Guide

Repairing a pitch mark is simple, quick, and makes a huge difference. Here's how to do it correctly:

  1. Find the Back: The ball usually indents the turf and pushes some of it towards the back of the impact area. This is your starting point.

  2. Tool Time: Grab your trusty pitch mark repair tool (or even a tee if you're in a pinch!).

  3. Gentle Levering: Insert the prongs just outside the edge of the depression, being careful to avoid the centre. Gently push the turf inwards, towards the centre of the pitch mark, using a slight twisting motion.

  4. Work All Sides: Don't just do one side! Work your way around the entire pitch mark, pushing the turf towards the middle until the depression is gone.

  5. Tap it Down: Lightly tap the repaired area with your putter or foot. This smooths out the surface and helps the turf settle.

Still not sure? No worries! We've got a fantastic video that shows you exactly how it's done. Take a couple of minutes to watch it – it's a game-changer for your repair technique!
